Narrative

La Expedición Británica de 1839-1843, al mando del capitán de navío James Clark Ross, RN, en el año 1842 le dio el nombre punta Bransfield, el que corresponde al apellido del maestre Edward Bransfield, RN, al extremo W de lo que ahora son las islas Joinville. En 1947, el FIDS determinó que ese extremo W era una isla separada, a la cual se le dio el nombre isla Bransfield, dejando el nombre punta Bransfield para el extremo W de la isla D'Urville, a 9 millas al NNE. Isla casi circular, de 3,5 millas de diámetro, situada directamente al SW de la isla D'Urville, entre esta última y el extremo NE de la península Luis Felipe.
