El nombre deriva de un informe denunciando la existencia de mineral de cobre en esta caleta y fue aplicado por cazadores de focas, alrededor de 1821, a una caleta más grande y situada más al SE, probablemente lo que hoy conocemos por caleta Nailon, pero desde hace algunos años se ha establecido el nombre Copper Mine para la caleta descrita. Caleta situada inmediatamente al SE del cabo Morris, extremo occidental de isla Robert, islas Shetland del Sur.
