La Expedición Británica de 1839-1943, al mando de James Clark Ross, avistó en esta zona un cabo, al que llamó cabo Corry por Thomas L. Corry, un Lord Comisionado del Almirantazgo Británico. Levantamientos posteriores, de 1945, demostraron que en esta zona existe un archipiélago, y se eligió una isla, la más conspicua vista desde el E, que fue la dirección en que Ross creyó avistar un cabo, y se le dio el nombre isla Corry. Isla de forma casi circular, de unas 2 millas de diámetro, y de 488 metros de altura, que está ubicada al SSW de la isla Águila, en el canal Príncipe Gustavo, frente a la costa oriental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
