El capitán de la Real Marina Británica Henry Foster quien en 1829 visitó la isla a bordo del buque "Chanticleer", lo denominó monte Beaufort, pero ese nombre fue gradualmente reemplazado por el actual que fue colocado en honor del capitán Foster. Monte que se eleva a 2.012 metros y está situado al centro de la isla a 4,5 millas al SW del monte Pisgah, islas Shetland del Sur.
