Fue descubierto y aerofotografiado por Sir Hubert Wilkins durante un vuelo que se realizó el 20 de diciembre de 1928. Posteriormente, fue aerofotografiado por Lincoln Ellsworth en el año 1935 y por el Servicio Antártico de los EE.UU. en 1940. El nombre fue puesto por el Comité de Nombres Antárticos en los EE.UU., para honrar a Arthur R. Hinks, Secretario de la Real Sociedad Geográfica, 1915-1945. En algunas cartas antiguas figuró como cabo Cross. Notable acantilado de piedra oscura de 223 metros de altura, situado a unas 18 millas al S de cabo Keeler, costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
