El nombre apareció en una carta que se basaba en un levantamiento realizado entre los años 1828-1831 por la Expedición Inglesa, al mando del capitán Henry Foster, ahora su empleo está establecido internacionalmente. Forma la extremidad S de isla Smith, en las islas Shetland del Sur. Es de color oscuro, bien notable, de unos 100 metros de altura, a su pie hay una roca de unos 50 metros de altura semejante a un escalón.
