Fue descubierto en febrero de 1930 por una Expedición Noruega, bajo la dirección de Riiser-Larsen en un vuelo desde el buque expedicionario Norvegia cuyo nombre se le dio al cabo. Cabo notable situado en la costa Princesa Marta y que constituye el límite oriental natural del mar de Weddell.
