La caleta fue delineada en forma parcial en las cartas de la Expedición Antártica Belga al mando de De Gerlache, 1897-1899. Probablemente, fue denominada por los balleneros de Salvesen y compañía de Leith, Escocia, que operaba en estas vecindades. Caleta a 14 millas al SW de caleta Brialmont, ubicada al extremo S de bahía Hughes en la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
