El nombre parece haber sido usado por primera vez por el geólogo escocés David Ferguson en un informe de 1921 basado en sus investigaciones de la isla Rey Jorge, realizada en 1913-1914, pero puede ser que antes haya sido denominado por los balleneros, nombre de carácter descriptivo por encontrarse en su cima tres picos. Cerro conspicuo de 213 metros de altura, con tres picos en su parte superior, con escoria volcánica en sus laderas, situado al S de caleta Potter, isla Rey Jorge, islas Shetland del Sur.
