Esta bahía fue conocida a un mismo tiempo por los cazadores de focas americanos e ingleses a comienzos de 1820, ahora este nombre está establecido internacionalmente. Puerto Foster, aquella bahía que se forma en un cráter en la isla Decepción, en un tiempo se le denominó bahía Yankee. Es una bahía circular que se forma en la costa W de la isla Greenwich, en las islas Shetland del Sur.
