This name originates from China. It is part of the China Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
There is a weathered soil hill 100 meters northwest from Great Wall Station dormitory. It borders the West Lake on the west and the shore on the east with very open views. China set up an astro-observation station on the hill during its first Antarctica expedition. Copper marks were buried on the hill and the coordinates were determined using satellite positioning as 62° 12' 59"S and 58° 57' 52"W. Not only this point is the mark for the position of the Great Wall Station, it is also the geodetic origin of China surveying and mapping in the King George Island region. It was named when surveying and mapping during the first CHINAE in 1985.
