This name originates from China. It is part of the China Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
It is a deep bay. On January 14, 1989 R/V "Jidi" was struck by huge avalanches. After trapped for 7 days,it managed to escape to outer sea areas. Later, ice cracked near the Zhongshan Station area and boats could to enter the bay to unload station supplies to land. Team members seemed to have saw hope so they called it "Xiwang Wan". It was named when surveying and mapping in January 1989.
