E part of Filchner-Ronne-Schelfeis, bordering Coats Land in the W and Berkner Island in the E; mainly fed by Support Force Glacier, Recovery Glacier, Slessor Glacier and Bailey Ice Stream. Discovered during Deutsche Antarktische Expedition 1911/12 under Wilhelm Filchner; initially named 'Eisbarriere' or 'Barriereeis' or 'Weddellbarriere'.

Wilhelm Filchner (1877-1957), German explorer and leader of the 2nd German Antarctic Expedition 1911/12 where the E part of Filchner-Ronne-Schelfeis was discovered.
