Narrative

The nunatak was surveyed and photographed from a moored balloon and photogrammetrically plotted at the large scale of 1:7500, Kaiser-Wilhelm-II.-Land (Wilhelm II Coast), Davis Coast. Surveyed during Deutsche Südpolar-Expedition (German South-Polar Expedition) 1901-1903 under Erich von Drygalski (1865-1949).

Named For

Carl Friedrich Gauß 1777-1855), German mathematician and astronomer; name of the expedition vessel 'Gauß".
