Named during expeditions conducted from 1982 to 1985, organized by the Geographical Institute of the University of Heidelberg and the Geomorphological Laboratory of the Freie Universtät Berlin.
Named after the British sealer Horatio operating around the South Shetland Islands in the years 1820 and 1821.
