Narrative

The mountain region (Norwegian name Gruberfjella) is the E extremity of Wohlthatmassiv and comprises the mountains and ridges Ødegaardhøgda, Schichtberge, Ritschergipfel, Zuckerhut, Zimmermannberg, Steinmulen, Bastei, Mentzelberg, Todtriegel, Seekopf and the lakes Obersee and Untersee. Discovered during German Antarctic Expedition 1938/39 ('Neuschwabenland-Expedition') under Alfred Ritscher.

Named For

Otto von Gruber (1884-1942), German surveyer and photogrammetris, who plotted the first topographic map of the 1938/39 expedition from aerial photograpghy.
