Narrative

A high, snow-covered headland which marks the S-most point of Jason Peninsula on the E coast of Graham Land. Norwegian explorer Captain C.A. Larsen discovered what he charted as an island in this vicinity on 1893-DEC-09. The feature was first seen by Søren Andersen First Mate of the Jason, and was named 'Veierøen' after his home, Veierland or Veierøen, in Norway. It is possible that Larsen mistook this high S part of Jason Peninsula (which agrees well with his position and is conspicuous from seaward) for a separate island. The adapted English name is 'Veier Head'. Discovered during expedition 1893/94 (vessels 'Jason' and 'Hertha') under the Norwegian Captain Carl Anton Larsen, financed by the Hamburg Company Woltereck & Robertson.

Named For

Very likely an incorrect translation of the first given name 'Veier Ø" to a form meaning 'Weather' (German noun 'Wetter').
