Narrative

Large island, approximately 430 km long, separated from Palmer Land by George VI Sound. NW coast was roughly mapped by RAE, 1821; named Archipel Alexander's des I (RUS 1824), after Alexander I (1777 1825), Tsar of Russia, who despatched RAE in 1819. Alexander Land (APC, 1954).
