Narrative

running NW-SE between Smith Island and Snow Island, was charted by Weddell on 26 October 1823 and named by him Boyd Strait or Boyds Straits, after Capt. David Boyd, RN (d.1858), under whom he had served as Master in HMS Firefly, 1810-11 (Weddell, 1825a, p.118 and map facing p.132). Boyds Strasse (Weddell, 1827, third end map). Boyd's Strait (Powell, chart, 1828). Estrecho de Boyd (Spain. DH chart 458, 1861). Boyd Strasse (Friederichsen, 1895, Tafel 7 facing p.304). Boyd Sund (Ohlin, 1898, p.287).
