E coast of Snow Island (q.v.), SSW of President Head, was roughly charted in 1820-23 by Weddell, who applied to the whole island the name Basil Halls Island, after Capt. Basil Hall, RN (1788-1844) (Weddell, 1825a, map facing p.132). Following air photography by FIDASE in 1956, the name of Hall was transferred to the present feature, which is close to the anchorage indicated on Weddell's map (APC, 1962, p.15; DOS 610 sheet W 62 60, 1968).
