Narrative

rising to c. 600m on SE side of Roberts Ice Piedmont, N Alexander Island, was photographed from the air by BGLE, 15 August 1936 and 1 February 1937; surveyed from the ground by FIDS from "Stonington Island" in 1948; named after Hengist, Saxon chieftain who, with his brother Horsa (Horsa Nunataks, q.v.), led the first Saxon bands to settle in England and ruled Kent, c.455-88 (APC, 1955, p.11; DOS 610 sheet W 68 70, 1960; BAS 250P sheet SR 19-20/5 (Ext.), 1-DOS 1978). Nunatak Khengist (Soviet Union. MMF chart, 1961).
