Narrative

E entrance point of Potter Cove (q.v.), King George Island, was called Punta Baliza [=beacon point] by Araya and Hervé (1966, p.17); later called Punta Elefante by AAE after the elephant seal (Mirounga leonina), in connexion with the establishment of SSSI No. 13 in this vicinity under the Antarctic Treaty. Mirounga Point (APC, 1986, p.3; SPRI, 1986, p.232).
