Narrative

rising to c. 500m between Brahms Inlet and Mendelssohn Inlet, SW Alexander Island, following map compilation by FIDS in 1959 from air photographs taken by RARE in 1947, were named after Modeste Petrovich Mussorgsky (1839-81), Russian composer, in association with the names of other composers in this area ([in 71°22'S 73°36'W] APC, 1961, p.3; DOS 710 sheet 14, 1963; Searle, 1963, end map; [co-ordinates corrected from US LANDSAT imagery of January 1973] BAS 250P sheet SR 17-18/15, 16, 1-DOS 1974; APC, 1977, p.23).
