extending into Bach Ice Shelf between Williams Inlet and Stravinsky Inlet, S Alexander Island, was photographed from the air by RARE in 1947 and roughly mapped from air photographs by FIDS in 1959; delineated from USLANDSAT imagery of January 1973 (BAS 250P sheets SS 16-18/4 and SS 19-21/1, 1-DOS 1974); in association with the names of composers grouped in this area, named after Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-75), Russian composer (APC, 1975, p.5).
