Narrative

consists of all islands and rocks N and W of Graham Coast, S of Bismarck Strait and N of Southwind Passage, lying between Palmer Archipelago and Biscoe Islands, extending W to Lumus Rock and including from N to S Wauwermans Islands, Dannebrog Islands, Myriad Islands, Booth Island, Hovgaard Island, Vedel Islands, Petermann Island, Roca Islands, Cruls Islands, Anagram Islands, Argentine Islands, Jalour Islands, Betbeder Islands (q.v.) and offliers. The W islands of the archipelago were sighted by Bis- coe in February 1832 (Biscoe, 1830-33b; 1901, p.332). The archipelago was roughly charted by GAE, 1873-74, in January 1874 and named Kaiser Wilhelm Inseln after Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859-1941), Emperor of Germany, 1888-1918 (Petermann, map, 1875b; Friederichsen, 1895, Tafel 7 facing p.304).
