Roughly mapped by Norwegian cartographers from air photos taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition, 1936-37. Surveyed by JARE, 1957-84. The JARE Headquarters named Kaya Hyôga after Seiji Kaya (1898-1988), promoter of JARE as the president of Science Council of Japan.
