Named by the Darwin Party of the NZ Party of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE), 1956-58, for J E (Ted) Gawn, radio operator at Scott Base who worked closely with all the field parties and whose efforts made their work much safer and easier.
