A high massive range surmounted by six more or less prominent summits, of which Mt Kaplan (4255m) is the highest, about 24 miles long lying in a north-south direction, and 4 to 8 miles wide lying to the east of Canyon Glacier. Discovered and photographed by Rear-Admiral Richard E Byrd on the Baselaying Flight of 18 November 1929, and named for Charles Evans Hughes, Secretary of State and Chief Justice of the US, and advisor and counsellor of Byrd.
