This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

A long narrow peninsula extending for approximately 28km southward from the slopes of Mount Erebus on Ross Island, and forming the south-east shore of Erebus Bay. If a line is taken from between Turks Head to Tyree Head, the feature is approximately 15km wide at the base, coming down to a point at Cape Armitage at the south. It consists of a ridge surmounted by a number of cones and volcanic stumps which much consists of volcanic scoria and compacted ice. Of these Crater Hill is the largest. Stretching towards Mount Discovery, it curiously parallels the peninsulas of Minna Bluff and Brown Island. Feature shown on: NZ AntTopo50-MF13
The British National Antarctic Expedition (Discovery Expedition, BrNAE), 1901-04, built its hut on Hut Point at the south end of the peninsula. Members of the British Antarctic Expedition (Terra Nova expedition, BrAE), 1910-13, wintering on Cape Evans, came to refer to this feature as Hut Point Peninsula. Not Cape Armitage Promontory or Winter Quarters Peninsula.
