Named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Captain Price Lewis, U.S. Navy, commanding officer of the USS Staten Island during U.S. Navy (USN) Operation Deep Freeze (OpDFrz) 1959, and who in U.S. Navy (USN) Operation Deep Freeze (OpDFrz) 1963 and 1964 was assistant chief of staff and ship group commander, U.S. Naval Support Force, Antarctica.
