This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

One of the Balleny Islands, small, flat, and ice-covered, about 1/2 mile long and 180m high, lying about 1 mile south of Yound Island. Balleny, on 9 February 1839, assigned this name to an island which he reported to be about 10 miles north of Young Island. He named it for Mr J Row, one of the seven London merchants who united with Enderby Brothers in sending out the expedition. Since the island reported by Balleny has not been found by other explorers in the vicinity, the name was assigned to another island by the personnel of Discovery II in 1938.
