This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

A small bay, immediately east of Hut Point at the south end of Ross Island. Discovered by the NAE, 1901-04, and so named because their expedition ship Discovery was moored in the bay and frozen in during the winter seasons of 1902 to 1903.
