Discovered and photographed on Jan. 13, 1956 on a USN transcontinental nonstop plane flight from McMurdo sound to Weddell Sea and return. Named by US-ACAN for aviation electronics technician Francis Gorecki, radioman of the P2V-2N aircraft making the flight.
