Origin

This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

A lake in the Vestfold Hills about 4.5 km WNW from Platcha. The lake is basically oval in shape, and is some 500 m long by 200 m across. It is surrounded by a well developed marine terrace. The lake's water is hypersaline.

Named For

Named after Gavin Johnstone, Antarctic Division Biologist, who was involved with scientific research in the Vestfold Hills and wrote an important monograph on the biology of the area.
