Photographed from the air by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47), the Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1957-58) and ANARE (1959). Named by the Soviet expedition after Lt. M.P. Lazarev, commander of the sloop Mirnyy of the Bellingshausen expedition (1819-21).
