A group of mountains about 50 mi long, standing just W of the Gjelsvik Mountains in Queen Maud Land. The mountains were first photographed from the air and roughly plotted by the GerAE (1938-39). They were mapped in detail by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by NBSAE (1949-52) and air photos by the Norwegian expedition (1958-59). Named for H.U. Sverdrup, Chairman of the Norwegian Committee for the NBSAE.
