Island 16 mi long and from 2 to 5 mi wide, which is the southernmost of the major islands of the Palmer Archipelago, lying between Anvers Island and the W coast of Antarctic Peninsula. Discovered by the BelgAE, 1897-99, under Gerlache and named for Carl-August Wiencke, a seaman who lost his life on the expedition.
