This name originates from New Zealand. It is part of the New Zealand Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The Ross Dependency comprises the sector of the Antarctic continent between 160°E, and 150°W together with the islands lying between those degrees of longitude and south of latitude 60°S. Within these boundaries there are an estimated 160,000 square miles of land and 130,000 square miles of permanent ice shelf. By Order in Council of 30 July 1923, under the British Settlements Act 1887 (Imp.), the territories of the Ross Dependency were brought within the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Government.
