El nombre corresponde al apellido del teniente 1º Francisco Ábrego Diamantti, oficial de la PF. "Covadonga" de la Armada de Chile, quien participó en un trascendental desembarco en la isla Pedro I durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1956. Área de fondeo al S de la isla Gibbs, situada a unas 15 millas al SSW de la isla Elefante en las islas Shetland del Sur.
