Fue cartografiado por el FIDS y aerofotografiado por el RARE en diciembre de 1947. El nombre fue denominado por el FIDS, en memoria de Sir John Anderson, Miembro del Parlamento, Lord Presidente del Concejo y Miembro del Gabinete de Guerra Británico. Este nombre, que permaneció derogado desde 1974, fue reactivado en julio de 1986. Glaciar fuertemente hundido, de unas 12 millas de largo, fluyendo en dirección SE hacia el lado W de la ensenada Reales Cédulas, entre el cabo Casey y la punta Balder, en la costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
