El nombre corresponde al apellido del capitán de navío Augusto Geiger Stahr, comodoro del Grupo de Tarea Antártico, a bordo del AP. "Piloto Pardo" de la Armada de Chile, durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1964-1965. Es la península que se proyecta desde el extremo NE de la isla Eta, en el archipiélago Melchior, archipiélago de Palmer.
