Esta costa fue explorada por primera vez en 1940 por miembros del USAS, pero el pico fue cartografiado por primera vez en 1947 por los miembros de una partida conjunta del RARE y del FIDS. El nombre le fue colocado por el FIDS y corresponde al apellido de Norman B. Marshall, zoólogo de la base Hope Bay del FIDS en 1945-1946. Pico de aproximadamente 1.200 metros de elevación, cubierto de hielo con excepción de su lado rocoso NE, ubicado a unas seis millas al NW de la entrada a ensenada Palmer, en la costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
