El nombre corresponde al apellido de Jorge Moder Jorquera, científico de la Universidad de Chile, quien participó en los trabajos de glaciología y geología efectuados desde el petrolero "Rancagua" de la Armada de Chile, durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1956. Nunatak que se ubica a aproximadamente 22 millas al SSW de la península Dodson, en la costa oriental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
