El nombre corresponde al apellido del teniente 1º Aureliano Villegas, del petrolero "Rancagua" de la Armada de Chile, quien instaló los equipos transmisores y receptores de comunicaciones en puerto Soberanía, isla Greenwich, durante la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1948. Caleta abierta al N, que se abre inmediatamente al E del cabo Fitz-Roy, en el extremo nororiental de la isla Joinville, mar de Weddell.
