This name originates from United States of America. It is part of the United States Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
A high, steep and rocky peak (4743 m) at the E edge of the summit plateau of Vinson Massif, 1.8 mi E of Mount Vinson. Named by US-ACAN (2006) after Peter K. Schoening (1936-2004), member of the 1966-67 American Antarctic Mountaineering Expedition that made the first ascent of Vinson Massif and other high mountains in the Sentinel Range.
