This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The rocky, partly ice-free peak rising to 600 m in Metlichina Ridge on Oscar II Coast, Antarctic Peninsula. Situated 1.95 km NW of Diralo Point, 2.58 km SE of Zahariev Peak and 5.85 km W of Kaloyanov Peak in Poibrene Heights. Overlooking Punchbowl Glacier to the NNE and Borima Bay to the S. British mapping in 1964. Named after the meteorologist Tsoncho Chapanov (1930-1971), the first Bulgarian scientist to have worked in Antarctica, at the Soviet base Mirny in January-April 1967.
