This name originates from Spain. It is part of the Spain Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

Stream 1150 m from Sealer Hill to the NE. In Byers Peninsula, ì Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands. The stream is about 1 ì km long, and has a maximum depth of 40 cm, with a diffuse network ì upstream. Cyanobacterial mats, mosses and green algal felts cover ì the margins and in the flat areas the stream bed. It runs from ì the plateau to the south beaches where it gets to the sea. ì Coordinates given from a GPS (7m accuracy). The name was given ì after the Giant Petrel colony (Petreles means petrels in Spanish) ì nearby the stream. There is no other stream close to other ì petrels colony in the proximities. It has been investigated as a ì case study representative of the streams in the area. Several ì publications have already used the Petreles Stream name as an ì unofficial name.
