This name originates from Spain. It is part of the Spain Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
Lake at 875 m from Usnea Plug to the SW In Byers Peninsula, ì Livingston Island, South Shetland Islands. The lake has approx ì 130 m diameter and is of a round shape, with a maximum depth in ì mid-summer of 5 m. The bathymetry is kettle shape, the flat ì bottom covered by aquatic mosses. The surface is at about 80 m ì above the sea level. Coordinates given from a GPS (7m accuracy). ì The name was given after the limnological researches carried out ì in this lake under the Spanish programme. Works in this lake have ì been intensive as a case study representative of the lakes in the ì South Shetlands. Numerous publications have already used ì Limnopolar Lake as an unofficial name for this feature.
