Origin

This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The partly ice-free ridge extending 1.1 km in SE-NW direction and 300 m wide, rising to 1000 m on the SE side of Sofia University Mountains in northern Alexander Island. Situated 5.51 km ENE of Thompson Hill, 9.78 km SE of Mount Braun, 4.32 km SSW of the central height of Landers Peaks and 6.12 km NW of Lizard Nunatak. Surmounts Poste Valley to the NW and Nichols Snowfield to the SE. Vicinity visited on 2 February 1988 by the geological team of Christo Pimpirev and Borislav Kamenov (First Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition), and Philip Nell and Peter Marquis (British Antarctic Survey). British mapping in 1971.

Named For

Named after the Bulgarian journalist Yosif Herbst (1875-1925).
