This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The ice-covered island extending 750 m in E-W direction and 635 m in S-N direction lying in Papazov Passage, Biscoe Islands. Separated from the W coast of Krogh Island by a 700 m long passage narrowing to 50 m at points. Surface area 30 ha. Situated 90 m ESE of St. Christopher Island, 2.55 km SE of Talbott Point on DuBois Island and 2.55 km SW of Edholm Point on Krogh Island. Formed as a result of the retreat of Krogh Island's ice cap around the turn of 21st century.

Named For

Named after the ancient Roman road station of Bona Mansio in Southern Bulgaria.
